Reiki is a complementary therapy that was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese physician, in the early 20th century. Reiki itself is universal life force energy that the practitioner channels into your body and energy field through light or no touch as you lie on a massage table. It is intelligent in that it “knows” where to go; rather, your body knows where it is needed and draws it there. It's a gentle yet powerful modality that increases in its potency the more you experience it.
Reiki accelerates the body’s innate capacity to heal itself, inspires clarity and creativity, opens the heart, invites peace, tempers the emotions, balances and strengthens body systems, clears toxins, deepens presence and intimacy, enlivens the spirit, calms the mind, treats both symptoms and root causes, and on, and on.
It's used and endorsed by the Mayo and Cleveland Clinics, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Mount Sinai, New York-Presbyterian, and more. It's also used in hospice and palliative care, on animals and plants, and on children. The more experience you have, the more natural and invigorating it feels. You may even decide to learn reiki yourself, as anyone can do it!
